Target pixels are calculated as print inches × PPI. A 10 × 8 inch print at 300 PPI needs 3000 × 2400 pixels.
Resampling changes pixel dimensions. Reducing is usually safe; enlarging invents pixels and can make fine detail look softer.
These dimensions are useful starting points. Confirm the exact size and bleed with the printer.

The result is 2400 × 3000 pixels. A source at or above those dimensions can be reduced without upscaling.
210 × 297 mm converts to approximately 1984 × 2806 pixels.
The result is 3000 × 4500 pixels, a practical poster target when it will be viewed from farther away.
An output ratio that differs from the source will distort it. Crop to the target ratio first when proportions matter.
